WHAT IS AN MKV?
MKV stands for MatrosKa Video. An MKV file is a video file that is commonly used for high definition video and audio. When a person rips the content off a Blue Ray, it is encoded into an MKV file for high definition playback.
THE PROBLEM WITH MKV’S The one big problem with mkv files is that they are not supported by many video players. It can be very frustrating, trying to figure out how to play an MKV file on a computer. Common programs like Windows Media Player, DivX, Real Player, and Quick Time DO NOT SUPPORT MKV’s! This is a big problem because most computer users use one of these programs. THE GOOD NEWS
The good news is that it is relatively easy to equip your video program with the codecs it needs to play MKV files. A codec is a bundle of information that basically teaches a program how to play new video formats. The benifit in installinh codecs is that you do not have to purchase a program for converting MKV files.
