40 Gigabit Ethernet – Getting To Know 40 Gigabit Ethernet Technology
In mid 2006, a non-profit organization of nearly 400,000 electronics professionals coming from around 150 different countries started a proposition to start publishing 40 Gigabit Ethernet technology. Carrying the title of Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), this group of experts were praised to be the brain behind the superior networking standards of Ethernet that we now know. With their already widely-used networking services, this organization upholds the name of IEEE or The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. Currently, we still rely on the 10GbE (10 gigabit Ethernet) technology for lightning speed data transmissions. The proposed project of the IEEE was to surpass this record and have speeds that are 4 and even 10 times. And since the project poses nothing but positive effects, it was approved and, with the help of a special task force, was formally set in motion.
Wondering how a 40 gigabit ethernet can benefit you?
The project was called the 802.3ba standard. And its primary goal was to be able to publish speed standards 40GbE and 100GbE, both greater than the 10GbE. The 40GbE technology is directed to be used by local servers which usually need smaller service capacities when compared with internet servers to which the 100GbE technology was targeted to. Despite that there have already been known 40 gigabit technology which functions by using four 10GbE services simultaneously, the new 40GbE will come in a different set-up The new 40GbE will be made out of just one single medium, like the original 10GbE but with higher efficiency.
In a matter of around 3 years in the process, the project continues to progress. As a matter of fact, starting October 2008, the task force already exhibited nine successful draft versions. The task force remained loyal to their aim of providing faster data transfer speed and yet still be compatible with the base 802.3, which was the original interface for the 10GbE technology. And because of their core similarities, the 40 gigabit Ethernet technology levels with the 10GbE for in terms of flexibility with various physical layer standards. By the help of certain modules, the 40GbE can be used to link devices even with varying distances.
It is strongly presumed that the 40GbE technology will only be made available in June 2010. None the less, restrained modules are already made available by certain technological companies for various sales and testing since 2009. With signs of certainty from the project, it is only a matter of time before we begin to witness a new twist to our technological lives. And if the previous 10GbE set a very high bar data transfer speed rating, there is no doubt that the 40 gigabit technology will not only be just as much, but way better.
