Disturbed July 30, 2008 Michael Kerner (Brooklyn, New York U.S.A.) 9 out of 14 found this review helpful
Honestly, 2008 has proven to be the year of the wannabe divas in the music industry, and out of all of those divas, nobody has been more overexposed than Rihanna. While she may feel like she is the greatest thing since sliced bread, the feeling of the songs has a lot more that could be desired. Her latest single, Disturbia, the latest single from her revised A Good Girl Gone Bad album, doesn't feel like it captures a message. The melody of bringing in the dance beats, feels a lot more shallow and doesn't show like it is worth listening. I really feel a bit disturbed with this song, because it isn't worth the soul. The trouble with Rihanna, is that she is not choosing the right notes, and that is why the song stinks. Song: D
Catchy and fun July 3, 2008 Quenten J. London (Los Angeles, CA) 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
Though the album has yet to be released, I love this single. It's catchy and bit more engineered than the sound of her past singles; a sign of maturity? Perhaps a taste of what's to come? We shall soon see.
Freak out! July 25, 2008 Amaranth (Northern California) 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
Rihanna is the mistress of sampling. She's borrowed a title from Madonna ("Take a Bow"),sampled Soft Cell ("SOS") and Michael Jackson/Manu Dibango ("Don't stop the music"),and now the title from a Shia LaBoeuf thriller. "Disturbia" is Rihanna's take on "Thriller." In the music video, she becomes an eerie,white-haired vamp with glassy eyes. She's in a freak show, wears a feathered headdress, and struggles with being enchained. "Disturbia",to Rihanna's credit, isn't her usual fluff fare. It's got a beat, some good lyrics. On the other hand,it's still bland and overproduced. "Disturbia" would work best as a soundtrack (and why ISN'T she having a love scene with Shia LaBoeuf in the video??) With its lyrics about the diseased mind, vampirism, and love as illness,it would be great for the finale of the "Twilight" movie (with its vampire/mortal obsessive passion) and the vampire segment in "Paris,je t'aime." "Disturbia",for Rihanna,is disturbing fare... all it needs is the right venue.
Your mind is in DISTURBIA!!! July 30, 2008 SptXc (Here, Ca, USA) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Rihanna has done it again!!!! Disturbia is something different, something good. Disturbia is other side of Rihanna we havent heard, its dark, yet fun and catchy. The song proves that Rihanna cant do any wrong. She makes hits after hits, and people can say what they want, but Rihanna aint going nowhere. She brings something different everytime and is worth listening to.
I'm all for originality but this song is just weird. August 4, 2008 Dri the Complex Lonely (USA) 2 out of 8 found this review helpful
And the video is just as bad. I mean Rihanna looks OK, but what's up with that blond wig? I was expecting a great song since its rated so high up on iTunes and what not. But a good song I didn't get. It wasn't even average. It was poor. I never wanna hear the song again as long as I live. 1.8 stars. end note: completely forgettable.
